Mr. Hart's case shows why class actions are needed. When individuals don't have the resources to fight injustice on their own, it's important to have one person like Mr. Hart with the courage to speak out.

They were with me from day one. Every step of the way I had an angel by my side.

Mr. Hart

Today, Mr. Hart has a monthly income to live on, to be fed and clothed, and is able to enjoy life with his family - his mother, his children and all thirteen of his grandchildren. Together, we can continue to positively impact the lives of millions of poor older adults like Mr. Hart.

I wanted to help others in this situation.

Mr. Hart

Mr. Hart needed someone by his side. A grandfather of thirteen, living in Northern California, Mr. Hart worked in blue-collar, manual labor jobs until he became permanently disabled when he was hit by a car while biking to work. Since that accident, he has relied on a small, monthly Social Security check to remain independent, put food on the table, and maintain his health.

When the Social Security Administration tried to cut off Mr. Hart’s benefits based on the medical option of a discredited doctor, he didn’t know how he would survive. How would he pay the rent? How would he get enough to eat? How would he keep the heat on? How would he afford his prescription medications?

But we were there for Mr. Hart. With the support of donors like you, we filed – and successfully settled – a class action lawsuit that saved Mr. Hart’s benefits and will allow over 4,000 other seniors and people with disabilities like Mr. Hart the chance to get their benefits back.

Our Justice in Aging donors made the difference. Today, Mr. Hart has a monthly income to live on, to buy food and clothes, and is able to enjoy life with his family – his mother, his children and all thirteen of those grandchildren. This is Justice in Aging.

Together, we can continue to positively impact the lives of millions of poor older adults like Mr. Hart. We can’t do this work without you.
